What is a competency based interview?
A growing number of companies are moving towards this type of interviewing as it more accurately evaluates the candidates potential to perform in relation to essential criteria for the advertised role.
 
Competency-based interviews (also called structured interviews) are interviews where each question is designed to test a specific skill. The answer is then matched against pre-decided positive and negative behaviours and marked accordingly.
 
For example, the interviewers may want to test the candidate's ability to deal with difficult customers and will ask the candidate to provide an example of a situation where he/she handled an upset or angry customer.

This course is aimed to give you specific feedback on your interview performance with useful and practical advice individual to you and your job search.
 
One of our consultants will carry out an interview based on competency based interviews which many more companies are moving towards in their search for the perfect candidate.
 
If you are applying for a specific role and have already been told which competencies are being measured we will adapt your interview accordingly.
 
If, however you just want general advice we will carry out an interview based on the more common competencies which are measured in a variety of roles, and will tailor this to the type of role you are searching for.
 
We will then watch this interview back and talk through your performance together, giving you some practical guidance to help you improve your performance.
 
Preparation
  • You will need to give us some background knowledge on the types of roles you are searching for so we can tailor your interview to your specific needs.
  • We will send you an e mail or letter giving you some information on competency based interviews, and tell you which competencies will be measured in your training interview
  • Come to your coaching session interview as if you were attending a real life interview.
